When the Rubber Meets the Road

(A present to all my Amazon Heart Thunder 2006 sisters)

There’s thunder down under

When the Harleys are out

16 Brave Women

Of this, there’s no doubt.

From all over Australia

And America too,

And even the UK

They are all fearless and true.

It’s Amazon Heart Thunder

For 2006

And they’re here for this ride

Their adrenaline fix.

From Sydney to Brisbane

On the road they ride

Stretched out in a line

Or riding side by side.

Meredith leads them off

From the pack

And of course Megan

Then Squirt, finish the line

At the back.

Edith and Ruth ‘ride’ with us too

Loaded with bags

They keep bikes well in view.

There’s been Bucketts Way potholes

The Sydney commute

Old Gympie Road gravel

Rainstorms and that beep ‘ute’!

There’ll be memories we’ll take

And think of for sure

Like Donna and Sue bopping

And Jo’s jazz on the floor.

And Sharon who sang
Such an awesome song

Our UK Liz and

The “Survivor” song.

To Gail with her smile

And American slang

The paddlers from Brissie

(Lizzie and Donnie) the “Missabittatitti” gang.

There was Donna from Sydney

And Sue from there too

Chris from Brisbane, who stuck

To Donna like glue

Leanne from McKay

Who lit up a room

And learnt to sweep

Giving Donna’s group the room.

Ten days ago we met

This adventure to start

And now we have formed

A unique Amazon Heart

A bond has been made

On bikes as we rode

Sharing our stories

Helped lighten our load.

When breast cancer hits women

We know they can cope

But we bring a message

To them full of hope.

Cancer sucks, we know this is true

But an Amazon Heart Thunder ride

Will help pull you through.

Take hold of your life

Measure your day

Life life to the full

The Amazon Heart way!

We shall survive!

Love and Blessings

This is my first and probably last entry for our 2006 Australian Ride. Generally, I’m never stuck or words, but on this occasion I have been. Not once have I been able to find the right words to explain how I feel.

The evening we all first met, Meredith used the word “awesome” a word I have never ever used. I never had occasion to and never understood the enormity of such a word. I DO NOW!!!

No better word can be used. Never have I been so speechless! In that same evening everyone told a little about themselves. I always thought I was generally strong but I could never ever have done this ride in the way some of the girls have and in such a short space of time.

Our ride has been incredible. Never once did I doubt myself that I could do it but the reality is always different. Everyone has been so supportive and caring. Thank you all.

To Megan and Meredith – without you this wouldn’t exist. This is bigger than us all put together. Stay well. Treat yourselves kindly. Keep your hearts open!

Lots of love and light!

Awesome days riding; everyday just gets better and better! This week has been one of the most special in my life. Thanks again to everyone who has supported me and helped to make this happen. Hi to all at John Paul College, Jo, this was for you too!

I wish Meredith and Megan a lifetime of happiness, peace and love, and the strength to keep the Amazon Heart dream alive.

Love

Lizzie xx

Thank you to Megan and Meredith for bringing us all together. Your strength and enthusiasm is an inspiration to us all. It is such an honor to belong to the Amazon Heart family.

Each day my mind has been in overdrive (that won’t surprise Phil). Yet I have struggled to put it into words and write in the “blog”. Finally here goes…

How fortunate I am to be here, celebrating being a survivor, of being alive, with 15 other amazing women. We arrived mostly as “strangers” with a B.C. bond, the club no one really wants to be in! Yet we have shared so many special moments that will be cherished for our lifetimes. 16 Amazon Heart sisters. Thank you M & M for being the inspiration to us all.

To my family, friends and everyone who helped me get here I thank you whole-heartedly. Phil, without your encouragement and stability I wouldn’t have been here at all. P.S. Next time can I do the final check through the house!!! Lol

Our group is an “awesome spectacular” sight and we have ridden through amazing countryside. “Mt. Mee” was an experience I shall always cherish. Our dirt expedition was a treat and we all handled it so well. Our slow riding is also an achievement to be proud of. I have been overwhelmed at the stopovers at the various dealers and DAA groups. What a treat with the rides on the trikes!! For me the arrival at the schools was an emotional challenge. Their excitement was so rewarding. How I wish my kids could see us. Our wonderful van drivers are a joy to be with! Edith and Ruth you rock!

I have thoroughly enjoyed the riding, although my butt may never be the same again!! Lol  Thank you Meredith and Megan, Harley-Davidson, and the Amazon Heart Thunder 2006 Australia riders…for my ride of a lifetime. (and my “Ulysses family” for all their assistance).

Love you all,

Jo xxxx

Hi – all I can say is thank you Meredith and Megan (M-M) and all the Amazon Heart riders. Words cannot say what I feel. I love you all.

Love, Shaz

P.S. I don’t want this to end.
