Day 3 - On the Open Road

Our run of spectacular weather continued today, with the day dawning cool and clear. We finally began our journey north, and had our first attempt at packing all of our gear in the chase vans - fortunately everyone has packed light and everything fit!

As we checked out we met Christine Kelly, the manager of Pollock Halls, who is a young breast cancer survivor. After meeting the group she didn't need much encouragement to don a leather jacket and helmet, and went for a tour around the campus on the back of a Softail.

Then we hit the road as a group - not a long journey, just to the petrol station and supermarket down the road to fill up the bikes and vans, and buy water and other road trip supplies. Back on the road again we passed several groups of riders also getting ready for the trip to Aviemore who waved and cheered as we roared past.

Before long we had threaded our way around the city of Edinburgh, and arrived at our first stop of the day - South Queensferry. We parked on the waterfront in between the two spectacular Forth Bridges. After a quick regroup, we headed out again, riding through the beautiful little village there - cobblestone street, and old houses and shops.

Just beyond we started along the first of many beautiful country roads, winding through farm land and postcard perfect villages. After a slight detour on the M9 in the wrong direction, we rode one of the roads again to make sure we didn't miss anything the first time!

After lunch at Callander, we headed up through the hills and the views were breathtaking. Sun shining off the water on the Lochs, pink, purple, yellow and white wildflowers waving in the breeze on the side of the road, and the craggy hills with slashes of purple heather.

We found some beautiful twisties, and followed the road as it dove through green tunnels of trees. All day we passed other riders heading to Aviemore with tents and camping gear strapped on the back.

Our destination of Killin is a beautiful little village - stone houses, shops and a bridge over waterfalls. We checked in to the gorgeous Killin Hotel where they gave us a fantastic and warm welcome. Dinner was a group affair in the Tartan room, with the whole group sharing stories of the day's ride.

The girls have been riding beautifully, and the sight of 18 Harleys stretching out in formation along the motorways in patrol formation, and winding around the hills in single file was amazing.

Tomorrow we head to Aviemore for the Thunder in the Glens Rally - the official start point of what has been an incredible ride already.

    Hey M&M and Amazon Riders,
I get about 5 "computer time" minutes a day just now -but when I rifle through you pics I smile and think of the images throughout my day.
Cheers, enjoy your long way 'round!
