Day Eight - The Wind

Wednesday turned out to be a very blustery Winds-Day. The ride from Monterey to Santa Cruz was cold, damp, fast and gusting. Fortunately it only took 45 minutes and we were greeted by the best welcome at Santa Cruz Harley-Davidson by Laura, Becci, Jocelyn and the whole gang.

We enjoyed an incredible lunch, fantastic shopping, and a gift of a warm Harley-Davidson sweatshirt that came in very handy on this cold, windy day. Thank you!

The ride inland through the redwoods along Highway 9 was beautiful. Lots of twisties. Everyone rode great. We had a few local riders join us. Once we reached Skyline Boulevard, we got the full force of the wind - all 35 mph of it. The ride was still beautiful, but we were all cold and getting blown around a bit.

We decided not to stick to the plan of riding to Half Moon Bay as the coast would be even windier. Instead, we cut inland along some beautifule roads to Peninsula Harley-Davidson in Redwood City. After a long break with some shopping and visits from family of the local riders, we headed south for 10 miles to our gorgeous hotel in Palo Alto. The Sheraton and Westin Hotels are adjacent to each other and are absolutely beautiful. Thanks to their incredible generosity, we were able to stay once again this year for free!!!! Thank you for a fabulous night.

The good news for the day is that we did not get rained on! Once we arrived in Redwood City, the sun was shining, even if it was unseasonably cool.
