Day Three - Where the Wild Things Are
Today we had a sleep in and some time for retail therapy in the morning, while Meredith had to take care of some appointments in town. We geared up on the bikes after midday, and headed out of town on our second practice ride to the Werribee Open Plain Zoo.
It was warm and sunny, but there was a terrible gusty cross wind. As we went across the high Westgate Bridge, we dropped to single file with the speed limit reduced to 60km an hour, rather than the usual 100.
We were buffeted all the way across, but held our line, and reformed our staggered patrol formation as we headed out toward the zoo. Once again, the group rode beautifully, handling lane changes easily.
The Zoo was amazing and we had up close encounters with zebras, meerkats, spider monkeys, ostriches, lions, hippos and a cheetah that was eyeing us off like we were its next meal!
Then it was heading back into the city and our hotel for a clean up before we traveled out in our support vans to Peter Stevens Harley-Heaven at Dandenong for a special reception and celebration.
The wonderful team there put on a great spread of food and drinks, and many of the local Harley riders had come out to see us. We had a chance to speak about Amazon Heart and how much the rides mean to us, and thank Harley again for their support.
As the icing on the cake, Peter Stevens donated t-shirts to all of the riders, then it was back in the vans and into the city for our last night's sleep before our adventure begins in full tomorrow!
To all the beautiful women that I had the pleasure of meeting at Peter Stevens Dandenong on Thursday nite. I thank you for the priveledge and honor. You have not only educated myself, my partner but also my thirteen year old daughter, who was brought to tears and commented "They are pretty special heh mum!" Enjoy your ride, and I will be keeping track. And Lynda, enjoy doll because after watching you travel your long and hard journey you deserve it babe.
