Day Two - Live from the Thunderdome

Day two dawned cool and clear, and we headed off in convoy out to Calder Park Raceway to take delivery of our Harley-Davidsons! HD had generously organized not only for our loaner bikes to be delivered there, but for the wonderful guys at Stay Upright to spend the day with us honing our riding skills.

Our practice day took place in the famous Thunderdome race track, and after firing up the bikes, we headed off for a few sedate laps around the track to get the feel of our new rides.

Then it was a few hours of working on the flat track, practicing tight turns and emergency braking. Our instructors were impressed with the level of skill and told the group we were better than the group of men they'd had in the week before!

Finally it was back on the track to practice our group riding formation, and at the end of each lap heading on to the pan to practice counter steering through a slalom of cones. The precision riding was amazing and fantastic to watch!

After a fantastic day with our wonderful instructors, Ross and Anthony, it was time to put our skills to the test, taking the group out on Calder Freeway to head for home.

The group riding formation was a thing of beauty to watch, heading down the freeway, on to the Citylink toll road and through the incredible structural sculptures that line the toll road as you bypass the city.

Over the stunning Bolte bridge, then down Toorak Rd to our hotel, arriving right on time and all in one group despite the traffic. A fantastic start to our adventure!
