Final Day – Rolling in to San Francisco

Once again we woke to high fog casting a shadow on the morning, but we knew sunny weather would be ahead of us during the day.  We gathered for a group photo in front of our hotel for the night, then climbed aboard our bikes for our final day’s run.

We headed out again through the wine country towards the beautiful town of Sonoma, and as we rode the skies cleared and the sun shone down on the hills and green vineyards around us.

Sonoma is a beautiful town with a central square surrounded by heritage buildings.  We turned heads as we rolled in and parked under the trees on one side of the square for a coffee break and time to enjoy the sights.

After some great coffee, shopping and chats to other bikers passing through, we headed back out towards Hwy 101 for our run towards San Francisco.  Our riding formation moved perfectly through the traffic, and as we neared the city we were rewarded with beautiful views across the bay and of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Just before we reached the bridge, we turned off and climbed the steep, winding road up the Marin Headlands, where we would have time for another group photo and to enjoy the spectacular views.

After photos and a rousing rendition of Gloria Gaynor’s “I will survive”, we rode back down the hill, and as a group rode across the Golden Gate Bridge under clear skies.

On the other side we pulled off in a car park to celebrate the moment, then it was the final run down to Crissy Field and the finish, to meet with family and friends.  We rode past hundreds of people picnicking in the sun, and then saw our loved ones waiting with banners, signs and cheers as we pulled up in the parking lot.

Harry from Harley-Davidson was waiting down the road with his truck to collect our bikes, so after a quick hello, we rode down and dropped them off, then returned to enjoy a barbeque and celebratory drinks.

It has been an incredible, life changing adventure for all of us, and we thank all those who have supported us through their donations, and good wishes.
