Day 3 - Stopping traffic and turning heads
The potted Amazon Heart experience continued today with two more favourites of the UK ride; a major ride-out with Police escort and stopping the tourists in their tracks.
Blue skies and sunshine saw us on our way as we headed up the motorway, just a short hop to Cheltenham Harley Davidson where over 30 riders from the Rolling Hills Chapter were waiting to greet us, as were some very welcome doughnuts. After a brief refresh and some posing for photos we headed off together along country roads, through chocolate box pretty villages, and along one incredible snaking track of tarmac which winded its way up a hillside to some wonderful open views northwards.
In Chipping Camden we met a new friend, another woman living with bc who let us use her loo in the museum, and some of our oldest and most favourite friends – the Warwickshire Police. They took us, and a fair few of the HOG, into Stratford-upon-Avon; ‘easing’ our way through the Saturday shopper traffic and into the main precinct – right in front of Shakespeare’s house. The place was packed with locals and tourists alike, to whom we owe our thanks for thier generosity.
Lunch was taken sitting in the sunshine, a habit we’re getting thoroughly accustomed to.
We left Stratford with the police bikes lights flashing. The tourists and shoppers parted to clear our way and stood taking photos and waving. It’s a fantastic feeling to be treated like a celebrity!
Our escort stayed with us to Stow-on-the-Wold, where we had to say goodbye for another year. We rode on together into darkening skies and a stiffening breeze – hoping the weather will hold out just a couple more days.
This evening we’re being treated to professional caterers for a celebration meal. There’s no particular occasion, other than you should always celebrate life in general, but especially days like today.
