Day Eight - Winding along the River Road

After a wonderful night of luxury at the Quest Apartments Newcastle, we
traveled a short way down the road to Frasers Motorcycles for a
fantastic breakfast. Then we took off out through Cessnock and Kurri
Kurri on a beautiful little road to historic Wollombi.

These roads are Donna Handley's favourite rides, and as a long time
Amazon Heart rider, her group was given the honour of leading the whole
convoy today. The road to Wollombi is a great ride - and for some
reason, all of the locals had decorated the side of the road with
different scarecrows every few kilometers.

Wollombi is a famous biker stop with heritage stone buildings and an
ancient pub famous for "Dr Jurd's Jungle Juice". There was a fantastic
surprise waiting for us - Donna Hansen (aka Bad Aussie) and Marie Fox
(aka Naughty Aussie/Cheers Marie/Flipper) from the very first Amazon
Heart ride waiting for us.

Donna Handley had organized for the pub to put on a free lunch - which
was absolutely fantastic! Then off on our next leg with Bad Aussie and
Flipper riding their bikes along behind.

Our route took us south to Wiseman's Ferry along the beautiful
HawkesburyRiver. Although it was overcast there was no rain, and the
views of the river with mist rising above the wooded hills was stunning.

To reach our final destination, we had to cross the Hawkesbury twice by
ferry on our bikes - another first for this group, and yet another
adventure.

Finally we rode into Del Rio Riverside Resort - a beautiful resort right
on the river bank where we were to spend the night in riverside cabins.
As we rode past we saw a mob of kangaroos bounding through the grounds
and as we pulled to a stop saw that they were hanging around our cabins.
Finally anyone who had not seen one of the many along the ride so far
got to see them up close at last!

At this time of year we were pretty much the only guests in the resort,
and we had the bistro to ourselves for a great meal and for Megan to
share some of the comments that had been posted to the blog by our
followers.

Tomorrow we are off inland and higher to Katoomba in the famous blue
mountains.
