Oct 2 - Day Two - LA to Ventura
Today was yet another stunning day in southern California - slightly
cooler than yesterday, but still warm, and endless blue skies. We met
in our hotel lobby for our morning briefing and took a group photo
before heading out on the road.
The traffic on LA streets was stop and go again, but after a few miles
we reached Santa Monica and were able to dive down on to Highway 1 along
the waterfront - what a view! Palm trees, wide white sand, blue sky,
and hardly any traffic.
We zoomed along in style, before cutting back inland through the canyons
- lovely twisty roads, and sheer canyon walls with views back over
sprawling LA as we reached the peaks. The group rode beautifully in
sync - a long ribbon of Harleys winding their way up and down the hills.
Finally we dove back down Mullholland towards the ocean and were
rewarded with spectacular views of the coast as we reached Highway 1
once more. More beautiful riding along the beach until we came to a
famous surfing and biker destination - Neptune's Net - a seafood shack
on a deserted stretch of the road, right across from the beach.
We stopped for a fantastic seafood lunch, and some great chats with
local bikers, before saddling up for our last stage - the run into
Ventura. Once again the view was spectacular - ocean, beach, rocky
shores, and sheer cliffs alongside. As we reached the end of the
coastal strip we even ran by a movie set on the beach.
Then it was a short ride on the freeway before arriving at our hotel -
fittingly, once again right on the beach. There were plenty of requests
to go back and do it all again - but there are even better roads
awaiting us ahead!
